Principles of a safe space in Helmet libraries

There are principles of a safe space in many Helmet libraries. Creating a safer space means that the space is made mentally and physically safe for everyone.  The principles underline the open nature of libraries. Libraries are for everyone.

We have heard both customers and staff when drawing up the principles. We all have the responsibility to ensure that the library remains a safe and pleasant place.

The aim is to ensure that all customers can use libraries without facing harassment or discrimination. The principles also guide us to respect the privacy and diversity of library users.

The staff is there for customers. If you observe or encounter harassment or inappropriate behaviour, please report it immediately to the staff, either directly or using the feedback form.

Different cities have their own principles of a safe space. More information about the principles used in Helmet libraries:

In Helsinki City Library, the principles of a safe space are in use, in Central Library Oodi, for example.
