Espoo City Library will give up the Russian Library special task

Espoo City Library is giving up the Russian Library special task at the end of 2024. A successor has not been appointed. As a result, the services of the Russian Library, such as the Russian interlibrary service, will be discontinued.

The Russian Library is a national special task established and funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM). Espoo City Library has managed the special task since 2013 and will be giving it up at the end of 2024. The special task has not been transferred to another organisation.

The Russian interlibrary service will be discontinued at the end of 2024

The Russian interlibrary service, which has provided free library loans to customers throughout Finland, will be discontinued at the end of 2024. We wish customers to return their loans during 2024.

What will happen to the Russian Library materials?

Some of the library materials purchased with the special task funds will be transferred to the National Repository Library in Kuopio during spring 2025. In the future, it will be possible to order Russian literature through the regular interlibrary service. Materials can be ordered from public libraries, the National Repository Library and many other Finnish libraries. Interlibrary loan procedures and prices vary between libraries.

To find materials for interlibrary loan, we recommend using the Finna.fi website, which includes the collections of Helmet Libraries, the National Repository Library and dozens of other libraries in its searches.

We thank our customers for these years together. The Espoo City Library continues to provide services to Russian speaking customers at its branches.
