The Magical Week takes over Helmet libraries
The Magical Week delves into different fantasy worlds in libraries across the metropolitan area. The event will be held on 8–14 April and its programme includes activities for all ages.
This is the second time the Magical Week is held in Helmet libraries. Activities will be arranged in nearly thirty libraries in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa.
In Helsinki, the week starts early with the Magical Animals family event at Töölö Library on 6–7 April. The actual week will celebrate unicorns, dragons and superheroes, and the programme will include shadow theatre, literary art and film screenings, for example. Munkkiniemi Library will be visited by fantasy writer Magdalena Hai and Pasila Library will host the Speculative Book Fair, which will feature guests and publisher book sales. Helsinki Central Library Oodi will host a Russian-language event with the theme of fairies and trolls.
In Espoo, there will be a Meet the Author and Write workshop for adults at Iso Omena Library, featuring author Sini Helminen. The week’s programme also includes Tapiola Library’s Percy Jackson Day and the bilingual Musse & Helium event at Sello Library. The activities in Espoo also include making fantasy characters out of Fimo clay in a bilingual workshop, creating role-playing characters and crafting magic wands. Lippulaiva Library will also host the Lost Magic Word kitchen workshop and a magic show by the magician Kari, aimed at children and families.
In Vantaa, the programme will include creating magical characters and worlds by means of visual and literary arts, magic wand workshops, escape games, film screenings and magical storytelling sessions, for example. Magician Tuomas Pitkänen will perform a magic show suitable for all ages at Mosaiikki Library, and author Vuokko Hurme will hold a word art workshop at Tikkurila Library.
In Kauniainen, there will be two events during Magical Week: Fantasy Thursday where you can make your own magic wand, have your face painted and take part in a quiz on all things fantasy, and a magic show with Robert Jägerhorn on Sunday.
The Magical Week events will be updated in the course of March, and they can be found with the keyword Maaginen viikko. You can find the events on social media with the hashtag #maaginenviikko2024
