Russian Library’s Cultural Marathon

The traditional Cultural Marathon (Kulttuurimaraton) will take place from 4 to 17 November 2024 at the libraries of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The Cultural Marathon is organised by the Russian Library and supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.  

The Cultural Marathon programme includes free Russian-language events for children, young people and adults. The events take place at Helmet libraries. The main language of the programme is Russian, but some events are bilingual.  

The slogan of the event is “Culture brings people together”.  

The theme of the 2024 marathon is the development of mother tongue and the promotion of reading among children, young people and adults as a means of adapting to a new environment and culture.   

There will be author visits, lectures, workshops and music and theatre performances for children and adults.  

The Cultural Marathon programme includes:   

  • opening of Elena Hynninen’s art exhibition  
  • meetings with children’s authors Anna Anisimova, Aleksandra Lahtinen and Marja Malmi and author Rene Nyberg   
  • performances by the Children’s Culture Center Musikantti, Pelikan Theatre Studio and Vera Kruglik Children’s Theatre Club   
  • Trio Gimer’s jazz concert   
  • workshops by Nadezhda Gretskaya and Ekaterina Hyyrynen  
  • lectures by family psychologist Alina Urpola and financial consultant Anastasia Vlasova and Ivan Vlasov, and  
  • a performance by the theatre and culture centre Art-Master and Eho Ljubimovki.
