Magical Week will celebrate fantasy literature at more than 30 events from 23 to 29 March
Come celebrate the theme week for fantasy literature!

Helmet libraries will celebrate Magical Week, the theme week for fantasy literature, from 23 to 29 March 2026.
Magical Week will feature fantasy, magic and imaginary creatures at all Helmet libraries in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen, at a total of more than 30 different events.
All of the events are free of charge. The language in the events is Finnish or Swedish.
Seeking sea monsters and adventuring in a forest in Helsinki
Helsinki will start the event early on 14 March as Pasila Library holds the Spefistiset kirjamessut book fair. The literature event will present speculative fiction for adults and feature fantasy author Maria Turtschaninoff as a guest, as well as plenty of other activities.
- During Magical Week proper, we will celebrate a wide range of creatures from magical cats to Pokémon, make arts and crafts and watch movies.
- Vuosaari Library will dive into the sea to look for mermaids and sea monsters.
- In Pasila, we will have an adventure in a magical forest.
Baking and magic tricks in Espoo
In Espoo, Magical Week will feature activities for the whole family: workshops, performances and book exhibitions.
- Lippulaiva Library will delve into the magical world of baking and incantations.
- Entresse Library will focus on real-life magic tricks.
- Tapiola Library will be visited by Cristal Snow, the author of the Penni Pähkinäsydän book series, and the event will involve decorating cupcakes in the theme of the books.
Escape room and concert in Vantaa
In Vantaa, Magical Week will feature an escape room game, fairytales and music, as well as puppet theatre.
- Tikkurila Library will hold its Cursed Amulet escape room game on several days. The game requires advance registration.
- Over the course of the week, visitors can design their own fantasy map, and several libraries in Vantaa will host a Wizard’s Apprentice puppet theatre show.
- The libraries will have fairytales not just for children, but for adults as well: Hakunila Library will hold a fantasy-themed bedtime story moment for adults.
- Another Castle, who introduce themselves as Helsinki’s nerdiest mostly female choir, will perform magical music in concerts at the Mosaiikki and Lumo libraries.
Quizzes and movies in Kauniainen
- Kauniainen Library will celebrate Magical Week on a fantasy Thursday event for children, featuring arts and crafts and quizzes.
- On Saturday, the library will screen a fantasy-themed children’s movie.
