Helmet libraries to acquire new library system in the coming years

Helmet libraries will acquire a new library system. The library system is the background system used by the library staff.

The libraries expect to launch the new library system at the end of 2026. The system will be put out to tender during 2025.

The reason for the new system is that the current library system of the Helmet libraries is at the end of its technical life. The aim of the tendering process is to find a modern and functionally reliable library system with first-class data security and data protection.

Part of a broader overhaul

The replacement of the library system is part of a broader project to overhaul the digital services of the libraries. The project has already involved an overhaul of the Helmet.fi online library used by customers in 2024.

The new library system may also bring about changes and new features to the Helmet online library. For example, the new system is expected to make it possible to register as a customer with strong authentication and import up-to-date address information from the Population Information System.

The change of library system will cause a short downtime in the services when the change is carried out.
