A new library to Jumbo

Point library, situated in Kartanonkoski, will move to Jumbo Shopping Centre (to the Flamingo wing) and, thus, gain bigger premises. The new Jumbo library will replace the small and inappropriate premises of the current Point library and will respond to the need to develop library services in the Aviapolis area. The new library is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.

This page provides information about the preparations for the move.

Why a new library to Jumbo?

The Aviapolis area needs more extensive and diverse library services. The only library space in the Aviapolis area, which is connected to the Point International School, is too small and inappropriate for library use. In addition, the number of students at Point School has increased significantly in recent years and it needs the spaces vacated by the library for its own use.

The Jumbo shopping center will provide the library with larger spaces than the current Point library, which can be designed to suit the needs of library services and are already located near large customer flows. The Jumbo library will serve the entire Aviapolis area in a more central location and will attract customers from all over Vantaa. Customer numbers are expected to increase many times over when the Point library moves to Jumbo. Jumbo Library will also serve as a showcase for the City of Vantaa for visitors to the shopping center.

Jumbo Library replaces the option in the current city service network plan, where a second library would be opened in Aviapolis in 2030 in addition to the Point Library. A shared library for the entire metropolitan area to be located in Jumbo will be significantly more cost-effective than the previous plan over the next 15 years.

Schedule of the move

The needs assessment for the Jumbo library was approved by the Urban Culture and Wellbeing Committee on 16.9.2025 and the Urban Space Committee on 17.9.2025, and by the City Council on 20.10.2025.

The Point library must be closed 2–3 months before the move so that the furniture, technology and collections can be transferred to Jumbo. This will take place approximately in May 2026.

The goal is for the Jumbo library to open in the fall of 2026.

Jumbo library’s vision

The operations will be developed into an easily approachable shared space, where everyone feels welcome.

An oasis among commercial services: the library is a place for calming down, spending time peacefully, learning and engaging in hobbies.

In Jumbo, a visit to the library is easy to combine with other everyday errands.

The library is a great showcase of Vantaa and its services.

Jumbo library is planned together

The library’s activities and interior decoration are being planned together with the area’s residents.

It is important that the library reflects its visitors.

Residents will be invited to participate in the planning in the fall 2025. If you would like to receive emails about the planning of Jumbo library and invitations to the planning events, you can provide your contact information through this form.
