Would you like to practice reading? Or, can you already read flexibly but are nervous about reading aloud? Come and read to a R.E.A.D. dog, that is, a reading education assistance dog or another animal!
Several libraries all over the metropolitan area arrange R.E.A.D. dog activities. Many libraries have the same familiar reading buddies that feels like a permanent employee. There is even a reading cat in Hakunila library Vantaa and a reading bunny in Iso Omena library Espoo. It is safe to read to a reading buddy; the setting is quiet, and the only ones other than the reader are the animal and his or her owner. A reading dog listens and will not judge you. Reading to a dog gives many schoolchildren enthusiasm and motivation to practice reading.
You will find the libraries involved in R.E.A.D. dog activities or other reading buddies online at: Events. Use the search word “reading dog” or “reading buddy”.
